Ener Flow facilities vary in size from 40MW to 1600MW. Essentially, the plant stores energy and generates power by means of a substantial, in-ground piston and piston shaft. Power is generated during the down stroke of the piston. The weight of the gravity drawn piston pressurizes a hydraulic fluid that is, in turn, forced up through a turbine that generates electricity. The hydraulic fluid is then released into the piston shaft above the piston where it is held until it is needed to recycle the piston.
Potential energy is stored by the piston’s upstroke. The piston is raised by pumping hydraulic fluid into the shaft beneath the piston. The higher its relative position in the shaft, the more electricity the piston can generate on down stroke.
